Old iron… „Do you want to come along? We’re going for a ride on old motorcycles on Sunday… Is your XL older than 30 years? We’ll meet at 11 a.m. in Christos on the Plateia.” At 11.30 a.m. sharp, I was at the village square on the agreed day – first, but gradually around ten riders with their enduros gathered, for the most part Two-stroke engines, and all 30 years and older and in very good condition: Bultaco, Montesa, Yamaha XT, Honda XL…We waited for a few stragglers and at around 1 p.m. we set off – first to the gas station and then to Evdilos, where a few friends were supposed to join us. Here it was also time for the first Kafeneion visit – and finally there was musical accompaniment with Manolo’s “Tsitsi” and his guitar. He actually had a few “motorcyclist songs” up his sleeve, mostly insider songs that I unfortunately could only understand to a small extent. But I heard a few words that I also know from German “meeting songs”… In any case, the others sang along and the lyrics seemed pretty funny…

Finally, a “guest of honor” arrived – without an enduro, but with a white BMW R50 team from the 1950s, and we set off for Messaria… so now the tour could finally start, quite a stir Exciting, so many motorcycles together on the street… but in Akamatra the first thing to do was stop and turn left – apparently we had an appointment with the mayor who lives there. So we occupied the small and quiet Plateia early on Sunday afternoon with the smelly two-stroke engines, and it was time for a little snack… I heard and learned many new Greek terms from the inside of engines and carburetors, and above all, how to improvise, if spare parts cannot be procured or can only be procured within a month.
It was soon time to drive back towards Raches, where we finally wanted to stop for dinner together. So we went via Petropoulis and Frantato-Maratho on the gravel road past Moni Mounte back to Christos… and after about 55 km on the clock, we decided over a well-deserved dinner that we would now regularly go on long journeys…
