Lately you’ve been hearing and reading a shocking number of opinions about the situation in Greece: they should finally take their fingers out and start working instead of rioting in the streets!!! It would be nice if it were that easy!!!

Many people here in Greece are hopeless, have lost their jobs, their homes, their livelihoods and their self-respect. Thousands have been laid off for months and the prospects of finding a new job are nil. Just remember: behind almost every laid-off state employee there is a family awaiting their fate! School-age children, grandparents, current bills, etc.

Pensions and wages are only paid partially or not at all and all wages are drastically reduced, while the cost of living is constantly rising so that there is no longer enough to survive. Special taxes are levied overnight and in order to extort payment, people threaten to turn off the electricity supply if they don’t pay! These are measures in a so-called civilized Europe!

Greece’s economy is in ruins! The middle class has completely collapsed and the lower class has to bear a difficult fate.

In my opinion, the only way to help Greece out of the crisis is to travel there…

The unrest and the crisis will hardly affect holidaymakers on the beach.

Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors for Greece and directly benefits locals by helping them and their families get back on their feet… It is important that the population is not left behind. For many families, renting out their small guesthouses and rooms is an important source of income. Even all the small studios, taverns and “mom and pop shops” off the beaten tourist path like in Ikaria live and die with tourism!
