Here in Germany there are bakeries with a large range and large displays of products. For example, most types of bread are made from ready-made mixes and therefore they all taste the same and not particularly good to me. That’s why I’m always on the lookout for particularly good-tasting types of bread.
On the tip of our landlady, we first found the bakery on the right in front of Raches. (Dimitra’s bakery, with traditional wood oven, note from Ursula). Actually it’s just a bakery without a sales room. But you don’t need it with about 5 products. Warm products are still available there from 11 a.m. on weekdays. One or two types of bread and cake. There are also delicious rolls in which feta cheese is baked. By the way, when the bakery is closed, the bread is available 100 m further down the hill in the supermarket on the same side of the street.
While eating at a tavern in Nas, we found the next notable white bread. When asked, the landlady explained that it came from Agios Dimitrios (the bakery of Sokratis, also with a traditional wood oven, note from Ursula). We found the baker behind the “Planane” restaurant. From the outside, the bakery only consists of the entrance door and a yellowed sign above it. In addition to the usual white bread, you can also buy delicious vegetable or cheese pitas, and sometimes even pizza with fresh tomatoes However, we couldn’t communicate with the baker because we don’t speak Greek.
By the way, on our next visit in September 2012 we will try fresh white bread drizzled with olive oil from Ursula, a snack like we got to know in Italy. Definitely very tasty!
For those who like chocolate covered cakes, I recommend the sugar bakery in Armenistis between the bridge and the turnoff to Raches on the left. He has two cakes covered in (dark?) chocolate that we really like (unfortunately). One is shaped like a mouse! Delicious!!!

During her vacation in 2005, my new partner wanted to show me the Greek island of Ikaria, where she had often vacationed. While walking from Armenistis to Nas we discovered the picturesque “Villa Dimitri”. A car rental agent told us that you could even live there and that a German was the landlady. In September 2008 the time had come. The landlords Helga and Dimitri look after their guests and the facility is exemplary, so we are traveling there for the fifth time in September 2012. We hike, explore the island and enjoy beach life.
